How Martin Print Helped to Give a Surprise Early Breakfast to the Homeless People of Davao City.
It was Judy’s birthday last week.
Judy is Martin Print’s frankly heroic Head Account Manager who works tirelessly on ensuring that the production of your amazing print and design projects run as smoothly as possible for everyone concerned.
Even my own super-human pencil-sharpening abilities (which I hardly ever boast about, but let’s just say I broke another world record yesterday) can’t hope to compete with the amazing work that Judy performs every day here in Martin Print H.Q.
So, I was keen to grant Judy a special Birthday wish this year as a thank you for everything she’s helped us to achieve over the last 12 months of expansion.
I also thought it might make up for last year’s fiasco, in which I offered to take the whole team out for a celebratory meal, but then ended up getting accidentally locked in my own bathroom for three days.
However, I have to admit that I was completely bowled over by Judy’s birthday request…
Judy was spending her birthday in Davao City in the Philippines, and her only wish was to make a small difference to the day for those in a far less fortunate position than most of us…
The eventual idea to be quite literally cooked up was Operation Surprise Breakfast!
Martin Print donated the funds to allow Judy and her team of willing helpers to roam the streets of Davao City very early in the morning and distribute McDonalds breakfast meals to street children and senior citizens who usually sleep on the cold side streets.
The early-morning mission was a heartwarming (and bellywarming!) success, and Judy’s team were able to hand out over 100 surprise breakfast meals to the homeless people of Davao City.
But what inspired this unusual birthday mission in the first place?
“I came up with the idea of celebrating my birthday with people I’ve never met,” says Judy.
“People who never get invited to birthday parties, people who are struggling to find food for themselves and for their family.
“There are so many people in Davao City – including children and the elderly – who spend the nights out in the streets and sidewalks.
“I just thought it could make a small difference to their day if they could wake up to a surprise early breakfast from a total stranger!
“And the donation from Martin Print helped to make this birthday wish possible.”
Whilst Judy and her team of helpers obviously weren’t able to take photographs of everyone who received a meal, here are a few choice snapshots from the early-morning mission…
…..aaaand relax!
Mission accomplished (and over 100 breakfast meals distributed) Judy and the team finally manage to grab a birthday bite of their own!
